Support for Member Schools
Some of the key initiatives through which the Association provides support for its member schools are outlined below.
The Whiteboard Prayer Diary
The Whiteboard bulletin and prayer diary is produced termly. It is emailed to school principals and posted on the website prior to the beginning of each term. Each edition features 8-10 schools in its prayer diary. Each week, one of these schools is the Association's focus for prayer and many staff members from our member organisations will pray for the school during staff meetings or devotions.
PD Support Fund
Important note: Members will be notified of the 2024 deadline for PD support applications by the end of Term 1, 2024.
A portion of the Association's annual income is placed into a PD support fund. The fund exists to help teachers access NZACS Professional Development (PD) in instances where costs may be prohibitive. Further details about the fund are outlined on the application form, which may be downloaded below. Alternately, you may contact the secretary for a Word version.
All applications must be sent IN ADVANCE of the event - any funding applications sent in for past events are unlikely to be considered.
Deadlines for applications are set prior to the earlybird conference closing dates and at other times during the year. Deadlines are advertised on the website and emailed to school principals well in advance. By meeting deadlines for applications, member schools enable the Executive to administer the fund in such a way as to help those schools needing assistance whilst not overspending the budget.
Recent examples of expenses funded include:
NZACS conference fees
travel to NZACS conferences
NZACS/BTI regional PD fees
travel and release costs for NZACS/BTI regional PD
Local Networks
NZACS member schools are organised into regional groups for the purposes of mutual support, joint professional development, student and/or staff activities. The Principals or school leaders in each region typically meet termly to discuss hot topics, to learn from one another or invited guests, to share systems and/or resources and to uplift each school in prayer.
Each regional cluster is led by a regional coordinator. Currently, our regional coordinators are:
Northland - Barend Blom, Renew School NZ
Auckland - Colette Budler, KingsWay School
[Sub Regions: NORTH/WEST - Sandra Bosman, Jireh Christian School & SOUTH/EAST- Murray Burton, Elim Christian College]Midlands North Island - Shaun Hurlow, Hamilton SDA School
Southern North Island - Gavin Clark, Hastings Christian School
South Island - Alistair McKinnon, Emmanuel Christian School
Expertise Database
The Association's secretary keeps a database of teachers, principals and administrators who have expertise in a wide range of areas; for example, curriculum areas, school leadership, governance, starting new schools, staff appraisal. Members of the Association access the experts' contact details through their regional coordinators or via the secretary. A portion of the Association's annual income is available to help schools with the cost of accessing assistance (although in most cases it will be offered free of charge). To find out more, please contact the secretary.
Executive Visits
The Association's elected Executive is committed to visiting schools that feel this would be supportive for staff and students. If you would like to discuss this opportunity, please contact the secretary.
